DIY Fence Shopping—Is it worth the time and effort?

As with most home improvement projects, quotes for vinyl and aluminum fencing SHOCK homeowners. Today’s high cost of building products plus the installation labor has many families separating the two purchases. Shopping for the fence system separately allows the consumer to focus on the quality, style, grade, and warranty WITHOUT the confusion of the labor. Similar to that wonderful experience of shopping for a car without the burden of financing or trades. Allowing the consumer to FOCUS on the the best value to meet their needs without distractions!

First time homeowners Jim and Cara from Massachusetts wondered how they were going to keep their dog safe and meet their HOA requirements for a vinyl fence.

“Our quotes for the fence were between $12K and $16K. At the time we also needed to replace our AC unit and had only $15k available after our down payment on the house!” We were able to buy our fence online for $7K and do it ourselves. We figured we could do the fence but needed the pro for the AC”.

One step at a time!

Ryan and Debbie from Maryland needed their fence installed by Memorial Day for the opening of their new pool—and their first party. Unfortunately, all of the fence companies they met with could not schedule the installation until June. They were able to purchase their fence system from a local retailer at a great price. Ryan was referred to a professional installer who was happy to install it as a “side-job”. Ryan and Debbie got their project done on time and well under budget!

Mike and Ellen from Pennsylvania went over budget on their life long dream of having a pool in their backyard. After spending well over $100K on the pool, they were happy to build the fence themselves. Mike and a friend installed 200 feet of aluminum fence in two days at a cost of only $5,000 and a 6 pack of beer! Now they can relax and enjoy the pool with their grandchildren.

1-2-3 jump!

Yes, it's worth the time!!

Fencing may be one of the only major home improvements that a non-pro can tackle. Of course terrain and digging conditions will vary, however, this is a significant opportunity to save money while addressing a need and increasing the value of your home.

Note: If you plan to build your own fence you MUST dial 811 a few days before you dig your first hole. This is a free service that will come to your property and mark all underground utilities. Have fun, be safe.
